The tensions between the Flemish and Walloon communities at the end of the 1960s led to the split between the French and Dutch-speaking sections of the Catholic University of Louvain. The Flemings remained in Louvain and the Walloons set up their faculties in the territory of Ottignies, integrated within a new urban project: Louvain-la-Neuve.

Two cities which seem to be complete opposites but which, when you look more closely, have several things in common! The layout of the streets is inspired by the medieval streets of Louvain, the «Malaise» stream connects the two town centres on the Dyle … and many of the same names crop up here and there!

Find out more about the history which links these two cities and their key locations via this combined tour! Combined tours can be made over two days if necessary.
