The sculptures in the city

The city has no less than 120 works of open-air art with a higher concentration in the university city. Indeed, the town planners of Louvain-la-Neuve did not envisage a city without art. Statues and fountains, in primitive or figurative form, in bronze or stone, rough or smooth, are on full view in the city’s public places within touching distance of the passers-by. These sometimes strange sculptures appeal to the imagination. It’s not unusual to see a student touching the “hand on the diploma” «la main au diplôme» as the exams approach, because of its reputation for bringing luck!

The city art can also be discovered during a guided tour given by a specialist guide (see guided tours).
