Slaughtering animals (permission)
Relevant department: Population (police records )
Description:
a). People wishing to register as a declarant /owner of an animal they want to have slaughtered privately have to report in person to the local authority, where they will be issued with their registration number. This is a one-off procedure that has no bearing on the type of animal due to be slaughtered. This procedure can be completed well in advance.
b). To declare a slaughtering operation taking place away from an abattoir (for example, in a temporarily accredited slaughtering facility), the owner has to submit a slaughtering application to the local authority. The permission is valid for 8 days and has to be requested at least two working days before the slaughtering operation. When making the declaration, the people in question have to take along their registration number (see point a) and the herd ID for the place where the animal was kept. The herd ID may be requested from the stockbreeder who sold the animal or the ID should be featured on the transport document delivered with the animal or animals.
In the case of a private slaughtering operation within an abattoir, the declaration is made on arrival at the abattoir. The same information has to be provided.
a). You have to produce your identity card to obtain the registration number. (cost: €1.5).
b). You take along your identity card, the registration number and the herd ID (8 figures) to make the declaration concerning the slaughtering operation.
(cost: €1.5).
